Competition

When searching for a great cover design for our first issue, the Pica Pica team struck upon the idea of running an open brief. Illustrators and graphic designers were invited to submit pieces for the front and back on the theme of craft and creativity, using 3 colours only.

We were blown away by the quality and variety in every submission and the fantastic level of support each artist has shown for our little magazine project from London. Here are the entries in all their glory!

Our overall winner was Steph Says Hello (aka Stephanie Baxter), a freelance illustrator all the way from Leeds. We felt her adorable composition reflected Pica Pica’s values and perfectly illustrated the diversity of the new wave of craft in the UK. Stephanie loves drawing happy things, cats, drinking tea and crafting.

Steph’s design will grace the cover of our first issue, which will be available for viewing online from mid-April. Our 5 other favourites (Melinda Francis, Amy Blackwell, Sarah Bagshaw, Joseph Fells and Rui Ribeiro & Sophie Williams) will also appear in the magazine, so keep an eye out for it!
